Grants and Scholarships
NVFC Training Summit Travel Stipends
Deadline: April 1, 2021
To help more people attend the NVFC Training Summit taking place May 21-22, 2021, in Orlando, FL, the NVFC offers travel stipends to NVFC members. Each stipend reimburses two nights at the conference hotel and an additional $400 for eligible travel and conference expenses.
NVFC Recruitment and Retention Experience Travel Stipends
To help more people attend the NVFC Recruitment and Retention Experience taking place September 17-18, 2021, in Cleveland, OH, the NVFC will offer travel stipends to NVFC members. Each stipend reimburses up to $750 for eligible travel and conference expenses.
NVFC Volunteer Firefighter Support Fund
The NVFC offers the Volunteer Firefighter Support Fund to assist eligible volunteer firefighters and EMS providers who have incurred home damage or loss in a federally- or state-declared disaster or a home fire. The fund provides a $350 stipend to help responders meet basic needs in the aftermath of the disaster. Individual applying must be a member of the NVFC or a member of an eligible state association.
CHEMTREC HELP (Hazmat Emergencies Local Preparedness) Award

CHEMTREC annually awards grants to two volunteer fire departments in the U.S. that are also members of the NVFC. The awards are intended to help the departments enhance their response capabilities and increase local preparedness to respond to and prepare for hazardous materials incidents.
Columbia Southern University NVFC Scholarships
Deadline: 2020 application period is closed. Stay tuned for the next application period in June 2021.
Columbia Southern University annual awards two scholarships to NVFC members. Each scholarship covers up to 60 credit hours towards one online degree program. The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition for up to three years or until the completion of the selected online degree program, whichever comes first.
Small Town America Civic Volunteer Award (STACVA)
Deadline: 2020 application period is closed.
STACVA is a new national program that will honor 100 extraordinary public service volunteers, including volunteer firefighters and EMTs, in smaller localities under 5,000. All honorees will receive a CivicCMS web site for their local government, and the top three will receive a cash prize to help with local volunteer recruitment and retention efforts.
Frontline Impact Project
Frontline Impact Project matches first responders with donated resources, including snacks, meals, beverages, and personal care items. The project was created by The KIND Foundation to support frontline heroes keeping America’s communities safe and healthy amid extreme wildfires, a hyperactive hurricane season, and a deadly pandemic.
Mazda Heroes: Honoring the Human Spirit
Deadline: October 25
Mazda North America Operations is giving away the 100th Anniversary Special Edition Mazda MX-5 Miata cars to 50 hometown heroes who have made a lasting impact on their respective communities. First responders and others who have selflessly uplifted those around them throughout the pandemic can be nominated.
David Clark Headset System Giveaway
Deadline: November 2020
To show their gratitude for volunteers and departments, the David Clark Company is awarding two volunteer departments with a headset communication system, including free installation on the winners’ apparatus and a training session.
Anheuser-Busch Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters
Deadline: 2020 general application period is closed. Declared wildfire emergency application period is ongoing.
The NVFC partners with Anheuser-Busch to provide emergency drinking water to volunteer fire departments to keep firefighters hydrated during long incidents such as wildfires. Anheuser-Busch has pledged to donate 1.5 million cans of drinking water in 2020.
MSA’s and DuPont’s Globe Gear Giveaway

MSA, DuPont, and the NVFC partner each year to provide personal protective gear to volunteer fire departments in need. In 2020, 13 departments in the U.S. and Canada will each receive four sets of new turnout gear and four helmets to better protect their responders.
NVFC Virtual Classroom
NVFC members can access all courses for free in the NVFC Virtual Classroom. These courses, designed and delivered by fire service members and industry professionals, are on-demand and self-paced, which means you set your own schedule. Additionally, all members of the fire and emergency services can watch the NVFC’s Train Strong webinars for free.
TargetSolutions Online Training
TargetSolutions is offering a cadre of 10 online firefighter continuing education courses to all members of the NVFC at no cost. These include awareness and refresher level courses for Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and company officer; fireground evolutions; hazardous materials; safety and health; first responder operations; wildland firefighting; and much more.
TEEX Emergency Services Training Institute Courses
Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services (TEEX) Emergency Services Training Institute is offering members of the fire and emergency services a special $5 rate on several of their online firefighting continuing education courses.
First Responders Children’s Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund
First Responders Children’s Foundation is providing support to first responders, including volunteer firefighters and EMS providers, who are experiencing hardship because of COVID-19. This includes grants for first responders who have experienced financial hardship caused by COVID-19, funeral expenses for first responders who have died from COVID-19, community grants to public safety agencies affected by COVID-19, and college scholarships for children of first responders who have died or are disabled.
