Line-of-Duty Death Resources

The NVFC joins with the entire country in mourning the deaths of any firefighter, EMS provider, or rescue worker. We honor and remember every person we have lost in the line of duty and will hold their courage, sacrifice, and legacy with us as we continue to serve the mission to protect our communities.

These resources are available to learn more about those we’ve lost and to help departments and families through a line-of-duty death.

National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend
Each year, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation holds a memorial service at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD, for those who have died in the line of duty. There are also opportunities for honoring the fallen in your local community.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s mission is to honor America’s fallen fire heroes; support their families, colleagues, and organizations; and work to reduce preventable firefighter death and injury. Resources are available for families and departments who have lost someone in the line of duty.

Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Program
This program provides death and education benefits for survivors of fallen firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders as well as disability benefits to those catastrophically injured in the line of duty.

NIOSH Firefighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program (FFFIPP)
Through the FFFIPP, NIOSH investigates and releases reports on select line-of-duty deaths and series injuries in order to provide the fire service with recommendations for preventing future tragedies.
