Updates Made to the NVFC Volunteer Firefighter Support Fund
November 3, 2026
Since 2005, the NVFC Volunteer Firefighter Support Fund has been providing stipends to assist eligible volunteer responders whose homes were impacted by a natural disaster or home fire. To provide even more support to responders in need, the stipend amount has been increased to $500. In addition, the impacted home no longer needs to be within a federally or state declared disaster area.
The stipends are designed to help responders meet basic needs in the aftermath of a disaster. To be eligible to apply, responders must meet the following requirements:
- Be a member of the NVFC or an NVFC affiliated state association at the time of the incident.
- Be an active volunteer firefighter, rescue worker, or EMS provider.
- Have incurred an uninsurable loss to their home/housing in excess of $5,000 due to natural disaster or home fire.
- In the instance of a home fire, the applicant must certify that there were no intentional acts of arson or fraud and that there were working smoke alarms in the residence placed according to code.
- Applications must be received by the NVFC within 60 days after the incident occurred.
