Reminder: NFIRS Will Sunset on January 31
January 13, 2026
The National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) will be decommissioned on January 31, 2026. This is the last day fire departments can access their full historical NFIRS data using eNFIRS applications. Starting February 2026, NFIRS will no longer be available to users.
If your fire department needs to export incident data from NFIRS, there’s still time to make a plan. Consider the following questions when making a plan for your data.
- What data do you need?
- What records retention policies does your agency, state, or local jurisdiction have?
- What data do you already have?
- Remember that data in eNFIRS is often a subset of local incident data. If your fire department uses a records management system (RMS), your local data may be more comprehensive than the data available in eNFIRS.
Check out the NFIRS Sunset webpage for more helpful tips about exporting your incident data.
