NVFC Welcomes David Bryson as Director of Education

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is excited to welcome David Bryson to the team as director of education. He brings with him strong expertise in first responder education, grant administration, budgeting, team leadership, and the volunteer fire service.

Before joining the NVFC, Bryson spent 30 years with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Emergency Medical Services, leading the development and revision of formal EMS clinician initial and continuing education. He also served as a subject matter expert on national projects and committees promoting post-crash care, supporting EMS clinician and ground ambulance safety, and responding to lithium-ion battery, automated driver system, and emergency scenes requiring deployment of traffic incident management principles.

In his new role at the NVFC, Bryson will oversee all of the NVFC’s training initiatives, from the Virtual Classroom and online training events to in-person workshops and the NVFC’s signature Training Summit.

Originally from the Washington, DC, area, Bryson holds a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University. He is a life member of the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, and since joining in 1989, he has served in all ranks and capacities including fire chief from 2012-2023. He holds several fire and EMS certifications through VDFP, NFPA, and NIMS; is a licensed Virginia EMT; and holds AHA Basic Life Support CPR certification. In his free time, he travels to visit family and enjoys weekends watching his daughter ride horses in Middleburg, VA.
