NVFC and First Alert Team Up to Offer Fire Prevention and Safety Courses for Free in October
October 8, 2024
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and First Alert have partnered to create a series of online courses to equip first responders with the knowledge and resources to educate residents and make their communities safer and better prepared for emergencies. In honor of Fire Prevention Month and thanks to support from First Alert, these courses are available free of charge to the fire and emergency services community in October.
Use these courses to develop, strengthen, or enhance your fire department’s community safety initiatives. Take them now in the NVFC Virtual Classroom at virtualclassroom.nvfc.org.
Whole Home Safety: Reducing Preventable In-Home Injuries and Deaths Through Community Education
This training prepares fire departments to educate residents so they can reduce preventable injuries and deaths in the home, with a primary focus on fire and references to falls, poisonings, drownings, choking, and firearms.
First Line of Defense: Installing Smoke Alarms
The first line of defense in a house fire is proper smoke alarm placement, installation, and having enough alarms in each home. The course helps responders understand the need for community-based fire safety education and alarm installation programs.
Protect Against the Silent Killer: Installing Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detectors
This course focuses on the strong need for community-based CO safety education and alarm installation programs and provides the tools and information to properly install CO alarms in the community to reduce risks of dying from CO poisoning.
Home Fire Preparedness: Fire Extinguisher Best Practices
This training helps responders understand the need for community-based fire extinguisher education programs.
