National Fire Academy to Reopen in June
May 27, 2025
The National Fire Academy (NFA) will reopen in June following months of advocacy from the fire service and support from Capitol Hill. The NFA was temporarily closed on March 7 as part of the Administration’s effort to evaluate its programs’ efficiency and alignment with their priorities.
Many first responders around the country depend on training from the NFA, whether in-person courses at the campus in Emmitsburg, MD, courses brought to state and local training facilities, or online training. The NFA offers unique, specialized training and courses that do not duplicate what responders are receiving elsewhere.
The NVFC, in partnership with the Congressional Fire Services Institute and others, led efforts to push for the reopening. Fire service members across the country responded by contacting lawmakers and sharing stories about the NFA’s impact. Read FEMA’s announcement here.
