Get Ready for Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10

Fire Prevention Week is coming up on October 4-10 with the theme “Charge Into Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” Use the momentum from this week to impart important safety messages in your community, connect with community members, and recruit new volunteers for your department. The below resources can help you get ready for Fire Prevention Week.

Fire Prevention Week Web Site: The National Fire Protection Association has resources to help you plan and implement Fire Prevention Week, including a toolkit, tip sheets, and more.

Recorded Webinars: The National Volunteer Fire Council has hosted a series of webinars and Roundtable Talks on the topic of lithium-ion batteries. The recorded events are available for free on-demand.

Roundtable Talk – Fire Prevention Week: Reduce Lithium-Ion Battery Fires: This NVFC event will take place live on Zoom on September 10 at 2pm ET. If you miss the live event, the recording will be available within a week in the NVFC Virtual Classroom.

Resource Center: The theme of the 2023 Safety Stand Down was “Lithium-Ion Batteries: Are You Ready?” Revisit the resources and tools compiled and developed in conjunction with that event.

Take C.H.A.R.G.E. of Battery Safety: Powered by UL Research Institutes’ Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), this campaign provides resources for the public and first responders to educate themselves and others about battery safety in order to prevent tragedies.

The Science of Fire and Explosion Hazards from Lithium-Ion Batteries: This course from FSRI focuses on the foundational research about lithium-ion batteries, thermal runaway, and how fire and explosion hazards can develop.

Tactical Considerations for Research-Based Public Fire Safety Education: This course from FSRI explains the science behind public fire safety messages and how to effectively communicate fire safety concepts, correct common misconceptions, and engage with the community to reduce fire risks.

Skip the Bin! Turn Your Batteries In: This national campaign is designed to educate the public on how to safely dispose of lithium-ion batteries.

Make Me A Firefighter Campaign: Use your Fire Prevention Week activities to let community members know they can volunteer with your department. This NVFC campaign has resources to help.

Fire Prevention Series: The NVFC and First Alert partnered to create a series of on-demand courses to help fire departments reduce fire and safety risks in their communities.
