Application Period Open for 2026 Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Project Funding
January 13, 2026
The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) and State Farm® have announced that the application period for Wildfire Community Preparedness Day funding is now open. Eligible nonprofit organizations are invited to submit applications that demonstrate planned wildfire risk reduction activities on Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 2. Each selected group will receive $10,000 in funding. Apply by February 13.
“Preparedness Day presents an ideal opportunity for groups and individuals who live in wildfire-prone areas to come together on a single day and complete projects that can help make their homes and communities safer from wildfire,” said Michele Steinberg, director of the wildfire division at NFPA. “Funding for the 2026 Preparedness Day campaign supports organizations with thoughtful, community-driven plans that help homeowners take meaningful steps to protect what matters most from the threat of wildfire.”
Preparedness Day provides science-based steps people can take to reduce or remove potential fire hazards from a home and its immediate surroundings to help protect from embers and radiant heat from wildfires. Typical activities might include simple, low-cost home improvement projects such as clearing dead leaves, debris, and pine needles from roofs and gutters; keeping lawns and native grasses mowed to a height of four inches; or removing anything stored underneath decks or porches that could burn.
“At State Farm, part of our mission is to help people manage the risks of everyday life. State Farm is committed to helping build safer, stronger, better educated communities,” said Rasheed Merritt, State Farm corporate responsibility assistant vice president. “Preparedness Day proactively reinforces that message by motivating people to take action, which is why we proudly continue to support the campaign each year.”
