NVFC Receives Grant from General Motors to Increase Roadway Safety
November 3, 2026
General Motors has awarded the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) a $155,000 grant to help improve the safety of emergency responders and the public on roadways. This is the sixth year the NVFC has received the grant and will allow the organization to continue building on initiatives that prepare responders for roadway incidents and educate the public about safe driving practices.
Through this grant, the NVFC will:
- Educate the public on slow down/move over laws and best practices as well as distracted driving messages
- Motivate first responders to take traffic incident management training so they are ready to safely respond to roadway incidents
- Deliver the NVFC’s popular electric vehicle/alternative fuels vehicle training
“The NVFC is grateful to General Motors for their commitment to making our nation’s roadways safer for all,” said NVFC Chair Steve Hirsch. “With this grant, we will be able to get more responders trained so they are better equipped for roadway incidents. We will also be able to reduce roadway incidents through public education and outreach. We thank General Motors for their ongoing support of these initiatives.”
