Fire Departments in SC, OR Are Latest Recipients in MSA’s Globe Gear Giveaway

Safety, Nomex® and Kevlar® for Personal Protection, and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) annually partner to help volunteer fire departments enhance their readiness with a donation of new Globe® turnout gear and MSA Cairns® helmets. In 2026, 52 sets are being awarded to 13 volunteer fire departments in need through MSA’s Globe Gear Giveaway.
The latest recipients are Durbin Creek Fire and Rescue (Fountain Inn, SC) and Camas Valley (OR) Rural Volunteer Fire District. Both of these departments will receive four sets of turnout gear and four helmets to protect their firefighters.
Many volunteer fire departments operate on limited budgets that make the purchase of new gear and equipment difficult. As a result, firefighters often have to rely on old, worn-out, and non-compliant gear when they are protecting their community. MSA’s Globe Gear Giveaway helps departments obtain the gear they need to increase the safety of volunteer firefighters and improve the department’s response capabilities. Since the program began in 2012, more than $2 million worth of gear has been donated to volunteer fire departments across the country.

Durbin Creek Fire and Rescue
As a small, rural fire department in upper Laurens County, SC, Durbin Creek Fire and Rescue serves a population of 3,000 over a 60-square-mile area. The department’s 38 volunteers respond to an average of 450 calls each year. Unfortunately, annual expenses exceed the department’s annual revenue, making it a challenge to provide up-to-date gear. In fact, 10 of their firefighters are wearing gear that is over 10 years old, and another four volunteers do not have assigned turnout gear.
The new gear will play a vital role in making sure that more of the department’s responders are equipped and ready for the job. “New gear will give our volunteers the ability to safely serve the department and the community,” said board member Sharon Millwood.
Camas Valley Rural Volunteer Fire District
Located in a rural area of southwestern Oregon, the Camas Valley Rural Volunteer Fire District is comprised of 14 volunteer firefighters that serve a 50-square-mile area. Despite limited funding and resources, the department’s firefighters continually train to provide reliable emergency services to Camas Valley and the surrounding area. In addition to emergency response, the department provides fire prevention education, smoke alarm installation programs, school activities, and public safety events.
The department responds to a variety of emergencies, including structure fires, wildland fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical calls, rescue incidents, and hazardous conditions. In addition, a major pipeline runs through the district, presenting unique hazards and requiring specialized training and preparedness.
Rising costs and limited funding have made it difficult for the department to keep up with maintaining and replacing turnout gear. Also, some firefighters in the department have to share gear, causing response time delays and reduced opportunities for members to fully participate in training.
“Properly fitted turnout gear is essential for safety, mobility, and the ability to perform effectively in hazardous environments,” said Captain James Beans. “This donation will greatly improve firefighter safety and readiness by ensuring our volunteers have dependable, properly fitted gear available when responding to emergencies. This investment will strengthen our ability to protect our community while allowing us to continue providing safe and reliable emergency services.”
