Updated Course on Electric Vehicle Safety Now Available

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is pleased to announce the release of the updated course, Electric Vehicle Safety: An Awareness Level Training. Taking an estimated 1.5 hours to complete, this on-demand, self-paced course introduces first responders to hybrid and electric vehicles (EV), shares data and resources relating to EV response, and equips first responders with the knowledge and tools to respond more safely when a hybrid or electric vehicle is involved in an incident.

Updated information includes:

  • Improved clarity on electrical shock risks
  • Expanded fire suppression and extinguishment techniques
  • Strengthened guidance on battery disconnection and de-energization
  • Additional PPE and hazmat considerations
  • Enhanced EV identification and response best practices
  • Addition of EV infrastructure and charging station fire risks
  • Updated references
