Volunteer Spotlight: Lacy Morris
Name: Lacy Morris
Department Name: Mount Hope Fire Department
Location: Mount Hope, KS
Why are you an NVFC member?
I enjoy reading the newsletters and all of the information that is provided.
What is your occupation?
Why are you a volunteer firefighter, EMT, or rescue provider?
I love to help others, and being a volunteer gives me the opportunity to help people when they need it most. I enjoy the brother/sisterhood that is mostly unbreakable between members of any fire department.
What year did you join the fire or emergency services?
What are your memorable moments as a firefighter or EMS provider?
I am and have been the only female on our department since I started. I think my most memorable moment was one of the first fires that I went on with the department. It was a very large propane tank in a field. I remember one of the “older” guys making a comment about me staying up by the truck and letting the “guys” handle it. Of course I did not listen and headed towards the action. I ended up on the hose with one of the guys and the valve popped and next thing I know I am the only one on the hose! After that there was not a whole lot more said about me being a girl and not being able to do the job!!
What contributions have you (and your department) made in your community?
One of the contributions we have made is helping bring our ISO rating down.
