Why are you an NVFC member?
My membership was included with my application for the Globe Gear Giveaway last year. I thoroughly enjoy reading the articles included in the newsletter and greatly appreciate the grant information that is shared on a regular basis.
What is your occupation?
911 Lead Telecommunicator
Why are you a volunteer firefighter, EMT, or rescue provider?
I am an OIF veteran. When I came home and separated from the Army, I was looking for a way to continue serving and found the fire service. The fire service fulfills my need to serve and help others when they need it. There is a special bond created among people when they are put in a stressful situation, like a fire, and this bond gives us all a sense of belonging. We are part of something greater than ourselves when we selflessly serve our fellow man.
What year did you join the fire or emergency services?
2010
What are your memorable moments as a firefighter or EMS provider?
A few years back there was an MVA with entrapment in a very rural part of our community. I was able to be the primary rescue technician on this call and successfully cut two of the four children out of the car. The family contacted me later requesting to meet the people that helped their family in their time of need. I was able to set up a meeting with the family and all of the departments involved in their rescue. The gratitude expressed by this family was overwhelming for many responders involved and renewed my resolve to serve.
What contributions have you (and your department) made in your community?
Every year I conduct fire prevention education in the elementary school in our community. Having the opportunity to teach children about fire safety is always a highlight of my year. Our department partners with the local American Legion post during fundraisers to increase sales of our products at these events. Our members also volunteer at the local community fair in a variety of ways each year.
