Name: John Shrabel
Title: Assistant Fire Chief
Department: Cedar County Fire Protection District
Location: Noble, OK

Why are you an NVFC member?
Helps keep me informed on issues related to the fire service and volunteer firefighting.

What is your occupation?
Assistant fire chief

Why are you a fire service volunteer?
I saw a need and it allows me to give my fellow man a hand in his darkest hour. God said, “Who shall I send?” And I said, “Send me.”

What year did you join the fire or emergency services?
2012

What are your memorable moments as a firefighter or EMS provider?
I have both good and bad memories; some tragic and haunting, others uplifting and blessed. But I wouldn’t trade a day. One that sticks out is when a neighboring department called out a mayday. I knew the voice of the firefighter who called. They had been swept up in a swift water event. We saved two firefighters that day. God was with us.

What contributions have you (and your department) made in your community?
The contributions are immeasurable.
