Volunteer Spotlight: Dale Allen

Name: Dale Allen
Title: Fire Chief
Department Name: New Johnsonville Fire Department
Location: New Johnsonville, TN

Why are you an NVFC member?
I joined the NVFC to expand my knowledge of the fire service in many ways. After joining the NVFC I have seen the vast array of items to help me and my department, from free educational classes to networking with other fire leaders.

What is your occupation?
Maintenance Supervisor

Why are you a volunteer firefighter, EMT, or rescue provider?
My urge to serve started after high school by joining the Navy. After a multitude of fire training in the Navy, I entered back into to civilian life with the knowledge of firefighting. Instead of wasting this training, I join my local volunteer fire department. This helped me in several ways; I used my knowledge and training to help my community while getting the structure and brotherhood from my fellow firefighters as in the military.

What year did you join the fire or emergency services?
1992

What are your memorable moments as a firefighter or EMS provider?
Of course most memorable moments would be of the countless hours of service to my community. But the most memorable would be the influence of my former fire chief when I entered the fire service. The values that my leaders ingrained in me to be safe and be your brother’s keeper.

What contributions have you (and your department) made in your community?
My department is very active with community events and fire education within the school system. We keep our businesses safe with inspections and pre-plans.
