Volunteer Spotlight: Amy McDaniels-Angell

Name: Amy McDaniels-Angell
Title: Firefighter-EMT
Department: Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company 1
Location: Shickshinny, PA

Why are you an NVFC member?
Because it provides a lot of information and educational resources, both of which are very important in today’s volunteer firefighting realm.

What is your occupation?
On-site medical representative.

Why are you a fire service volunteer?
I started out at age 14; my dad was a volunteer firefighter and I saw the difference he helped to make for people in our town and neighboring communities. I wanted to help make a difference as well. Here I am, 30 years later, still active and enjoying making a difference.

What year did you join the fire or emergency services?
1991

What are your memorable moments as a firefighter or EMS provider?
There’s a few from over the years and it’s hard to single out a few. I’d have to say delivering a baby as a paramedic student, holding the cervical spine in a car for a young girl and later finding out that the steady hands holding her cervical spine is why she was able to walk out of the hospital, numerous quick stops on fires over the years which allowed families to quickly rebuild lives, and overall being a part of such an amazing family are the most memorable.

What contributions have you (and your department) made in your community?
Improvements to fire protection services in the communities we service and ongoing training, which led to better Insurance Services Office (ISO) rates.
