The FY 2024 National Defense Authorization Act included language that established the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants, which supports the hiring of career firefighters and recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. Also that year, the NVFC launched the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program.
