Thirteen Volunteer Fire Departments Awarded New PPE in 2025 through MSA and DuPont’s Globe Gear Giveaway

Properly fitting personal protective equipment that meets current standards is critical to protecting firefighters when they are responding to emergencies. However, many volunteer fire departments operate on minimal budgets that make purchasing needed gear challenging at best. To help meet the urgent need these departments have for gear, MSA Safety and DuPont Personal Protection annually team up with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) to donate 52 sets of new, state-of-the-art turnout gear and helmets to volunteer fire departments.

Through MSA and DuPont’s Globe Gear Giveaway, 13 volunteer fire departments in need were each awarded four sets of Globe® turnout gear and four MSA Cairns® helmets in 2025. Since the program began in 2012, over $2 million worth of gear has been donated to help struggling departments – with 186 departments receiving a total of 819 sets of turnouts and 364 helmets.

“We are extremely grateful to MSA Safety and DuPont Personal Protection for their ongoing dedication and commitment to making sure our nation’s volunteer firefighters have the best protection available despite limited budgets,” said NVFC Chair Steve Hirsch. “The NVFC is proud to partner in this incredible program that has increased safety and efficiency for hundreds of volunteer firefighters across the nation.”

“We’re proud to play a part in helping to keep firefighters safe, so they may continue to protect the communities they serve,” said Joann Serakowski, MSA Safety Vice President of US & Canada Fire Service. “MSA Safety’s mission is helping to keep people safe at work, and this program allows us to extend that commitment to fire departments that are most in need by providing them with the necessary protective equipment to help improve firefighter safety.”

“We continue to value our collaboration with the NVFC and MSA, two organizations that share our passion for supporting front-line volunteers through state-of-the-art gear, ongoing research, and continued education,” said John Denison, DuPont Personal Protection Market Leader. “Every year, DuPont looks forward to the Globe Gear Giveaway as we support our singular mission in the emergency response market – to develop innovative Nomex® and Kevlar® fibers that can help protect the firefighters who work daily to protect us. This program allows us to support these goals by putting gear directly in the hands of these departments.”

The recipients in the 2025 gear giveaway are as follows:

  • 737 Fire and Rescue (Saskatchewan, Canada)
  • Atwater (MN) Fire Department
  • Camps Volunteer Fire Department (Sneedville, TN)

To be eligible to apply for the giveaway, departments must be over 50 percent volunteer, serve a population of 25,000 or less, be located in the U.S. or Canada and legally organized under state/province law, demonstrate significant need for the gear, and have an NVFC member in the department. To help departments meet the last requirement, MSA provided a one-year NVFC membership to the first 500 applicants.

In 2026, the program will mark its 15th year of providing gear to volunteer fire departments in need. An additional 52 sets of turnouts and helmets will be awarded to increase firefighter safety. The application period will open in February. Learn more about the program at www.nvfc.org/gear.
