NVFC Seeks Training Coordinator

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is the premier nonprofit association serving the volunteer fire, emergency, and rescue services for more than 45 years. Today, the NVFC serves as the voice of over one million volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel on the national level and provides valuable training, programs, and other resources.

The NVFC seeks a highly motivated, full-time training coordinator. This position is remote but will ideally be based in the Washington, DC, area near core staff and NVFC functions. This position is an integral part of the team and will assist the chief of training and education in conducting the organization’s in-person and virtual training efforts, including coordinating webinars and other virtual training events, coordinating in-person meeting/training delivery, developing reports, working with various stakeholders and subject matter experts, responding to inquiries, coordinating with vendors and partners, assisting with programs and projects, and other duties as assigned.

Exceptional attention to detail is required along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should have education and/or experience in adult education/professional development. The ideal candidate will work well in a small staff, team-oriented, virtual environment and will demonstrate initiative, a desire to grow and learn, possess great organizational skills, and will take ownership over their assigned project areas. Fire service experience preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and organizes in-person training and educational offerings, including identifying training locations and instructors, coordinating travel and logistics, preparing agendas, managing registration, shipping course materials, monitoring expenses, and processing course evaluations and expense reimbursements
  • Assists with the coordination of the NVFC’s Virtual Classroom, including learning management system, monitoring analytics and usage information, responding to member/user questions, and preparing regular reports for management
  • Assists with the coordination of live virtual training events, including scheduling sessions, speaker management, and technical support
  • Assists with coordination of organizational meetings and conferences, including registration system management, attendee management, web site updates, and on-site support
  • Coordinates program activities including developing schedules, forms, presentations, and other necessary materials for programs, training, and other initiatives
  • Coordinates training-related grants, including budget management, scheduling, and reporting
  • Compiles regular reports on program and training activities
  • Coordinates and schedules various meetings and other activities
  • Provides administrative support such as answering phones, taking meeting minutes, agenda/document formatting, and other logistical coordination
  • May represent the organization at speaking engagements, tradeshows, and meetings, requiring 2-4 nights travel
  • Assist with other projects and activities as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills/Competencies Required:

  • Experience with learning management and learning development systems (Higher Logic and Synapse preferred)
  • Experience or education in adult education and professional development
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating webinars, events, and training
  • Highly organized with the ability to learn quickly, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with high attention to detail
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards and professional image
  • Ability to work well under pressure, determine priorities, and produce results
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently, a self-initiator, versatile, and motivated
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other productivity tools
  • Excellent customer service-ethic and responsiveness
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills and able to present information persuasively and concisely to different audiences
  • Understanding of an association/nonprofit environment and the role of professional development/adult learning
  • Demonstrated willingness to embrace change and adapt strategies as needed
  • Ability to understand importance of the position for the success of the NVFC
  • Strong desire to continue to learn and develop new and exciting content
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and seek to improve/promote quality in the organization while exhibiting objectivity and openness to others’ views
  • Ability to travel 2-3 times per year

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university; two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
