NVFC Receives Grant from PHMSA to Promote Pipeline Response Preparedness

For the fourth year, the NVFC has received a grant from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to support efforts to provide resources, tools, and training to volunteer fire departments regarding pipeline incident response.

The $50,000 grant will go mainly towards promoting and disseminating the Fire Department Pipeline Response, Emergency Planning, and Preparedness (FD PREPP) Toolkit. While low frequency events, pipeline incidents have a high impact and require special planning, considerations, and training to make sure firefighters are ready to respond. The FD PREP Toolkit was developed by the NVFC and PHMSA to help departments conduct pre-incident planning, increase preparedness, and improve response.

“We thank PHMSA for this support so we can make sure fire departments are ready to respond to a pipeline incident safely and effectively,” said NVFC chair Steve Hirsch. “We appreciate our partnership and look forward to continuing our work to enhance the safety of our nation’s fire and emergency personnel when a pipeline incident occurs.”
