NVFC and IAFC VCOS to Receive Award for Lavender Ribbon Report Initiative

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and International Association of Fire Chiefs’ Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) are the 2022 recipients of the Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award for their work on the Lavender Ribbon Report initiative. This award is co-sponsored by the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and recognizes organizations for their outstanding contributions to firefighter health and safety.

The Lavender Ribbon Report initiative features 11 actions firefighters can take to reduce their exposure risks and prevent occupationally-caused cancer. The initiative specifically focuses on educating the volunteer fire service on these actions and how to implement them in their department. The initiative features the original Lavender Ribbon Report released in 2018 and the Lavender Ribbon Report Update released in 2021 as well as training and outreach focused on cancer prevention and risk reduction.

The award will be presented during the CFSI dinner on April 7. The NVFC thanks all of the partners, supporters, and subject matter experts who helped make the Lavender Ribbon Report initiative a success. Learn more about the award here.
