NFPA Releases Report of Firefighter Fatal Injuries in 2024

The National Fire Protection Association has released its annual report on Fatal Firefighter Injuries in the U.S., which showed 62 on-duty U.S. firefighter fatalities in 2024. This is a 31 percent decrease of the 90 on-duty firefighter fatalities reported in the 2023 report, and the fourth fewest fatalities since 1977. Overexertion or strain injuries continues to be the leading cause of on-duty deaths, with 40 fatal injuries. Learn more.
