Fire Prevention Week is taking place October 5-11 with the theme “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The campaign stresses how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle lithium-ion batteries safely. Use these resources to educate your community and department during Fire Prevention Week and beyond.

Recorded Webinars: The National Volunteer Fire Council has hosted a series of webinars and Roundtable Talks on the topic of lithium-ion batteries. In addition, the September 16 Roundtable Talk on Protecting Communities: Planning for Fire Prevention Week and Beyond will be available in the Virtual Classroom in the coming days.
Resource Center: The theme of the 2023 Safety Stand Down was “Lithium-Ion Batteries: Are You Ready?” Revisit the resources and tools compiled and developed in conjunction with that event.
Take C.H.A.R.G.E. of Battery Safety: Powered by the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), this campaign provides resources for the public and first responders to educate themselves and others about battery safety in order to prevent tragedies.
The Science of Fire and Explosion Hazards from Lithium-Ion Batteries: This course from FSRI focuses on the foundational research about lithium-ion batteries, thermal runaway, and how fire and explosion hazards can develop.
Tactical Considerations for Research-Based Public Fire Safety Education: This course from FSRI explains the science behind public fire safety messages and how to effectively communicate fire safety concepts, correct common misconceptions, and engage with the community to reduce fire risks.
