Application Period Open for AFG and FP&S Grants

The application period is now open for two of FEMA’s fire service grant programs – the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and the Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) grants. AFG helps fire and EMS departments obtain needed resources, such as gear, equipment, vehicles, and training. FP&S grants support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards.

Applications must be submitted through the FEMA GO platform. Information about each grant along with guidance materials and the application walkthrough webinar schedule are available on the AFG web site. The application deadline is February 12 for AFG and February 26 for FP&S.

The NVFC also recently hosted a webinar entitled “Grants Program Update: What’s Changing and What Do I Need to Know?” This free webinar reviews the application process and frequently asked questions for AFG, FP&S, and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant, which will be opening soon. The NVFC also offers the course “Grant Writing for the Fire & Emergency Services” to provide tips for writing a successful grant narrative. Find these two trainings in the NVFC’s Virtual Classroom.
