Vision 20/20 is offering two scholarships for students to attend the Third National Model Performance in Fire Prevention Symposium on March 26-28, 2014, in Towson, MD. This is a great opportunity to learn about what is working in fire prevention and to network with fire prevention leaders from across the nation.

Each scholarship will cover travel, lodging, and meals during the symposium.

The Symposium will feature presentations by experts who have implemented successful programs in their communities and are coming to share what they have accomplished with their peers. In addition, there will be a number of vendors showcasing some of the latest fire safety technology and tools. Representatives from all fifty states will be attending, so there will be significant networking and discussion possibilities.

To apply for the scholarship, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Submit a 1,500 word essay (max) on how to effectively communicate fire safety messages to people that are 18 to 30 years old. We are looking for creative, innovative solutions (and something with more detail than just "use Facebook", please!).
  • Any full-time student registered in a recognized 2-year or 4-year U.S. college or university is eligible.
  • This is open to students in any major, it is not limited to those in fire science or related fields. Why? We are looking for innovation and creativity, and often this comes from the places you least expect it!

The deadline to submit an application is midnight (Eastern time) on February 17, 2014. To enter, download this form, fill it out, and return to ecomeau@strategicfire.org.

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of experts from Vision 20/20 and you will be notified by March 1 whether you have been selected or not. All travel arrangements will be made by Vision 20/20. We will cover your airfare or ground transportation, lodging, registration, and meals during the Symposium.
