U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) Reauthorization Bill Introduced in the House
August 6, 2012
On July 30, Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R-IL) introduced the United States Fire Administration Reauthorization Act of 2012 (H.R. 6229), which would extend congressional authorization for USFA through FY 2017. The NVFC joined with other national fire service organizations to endorse H.R. 6229 and thanks Representatives Biggert and original co-sponsor Jerry McNerney (D-CA) for their leadership in introducing this important legislation.
USFA prepares the fire service for all-hazards emergency response through training and education, data collection and analysis, leadership, and in other support activities. Through the National Fire Academy, USFA annually provides training to approximately one million fire and emergency services personnel. USFA is a vital component of the Federal Emergency Management Agency within the Department of Homeland Security, bringing a fire service perspective to preparedness and response discussions.
