UNTIL HELP ARRIVES Initiative to Train Public to Provide Lifesaving Care

On March 28, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in collaboration with other federal partners announced the Until Help Arrives program, which was developed to educate and empower the public to take action and provide lifesaving care before professional help arrives.

The program encourages the public to take the following five steps in situations where someone may have a life-threatening injury due to trauma:

  1. Call 9-1-1.
  2. Protect the injured from harm.
  3. Stop bleeding.
  4. Position people so they can breathe.
  5. Provide comfort.
