Thanksgiving Message from Steve Hirsch, NVFC Chair
November 28, 2019
Today we participate in what appears to be 400 years of celebration of Thanksgiving in America. Records seem to indicate that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in Virginia by English settlers in 1619. The purpose was to thank Almighty God for His providence in landing in these new lands – and for the Native Americans who shared food with them to get them through the winter months. How appropriate that we in the volunteer fire service would also celebrate Thanksgiving. Just as the people who were native to this country shared food with their neighbors, we celebrate volunteer firefighters and rescue workers who every day share their time and their talents to help out their neighbors in need when they need it the most. I wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving – and pray that each of you and our firefighters and rescue workers across this great land are safe throughout the holiday.
