SAFER Grant Period Opening July 16
July 9, 2012
FEMA has announced that the application period for the FY 2012 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants will be open from July 16-August 10. Get ready to apply for these grants to help with your department’s recruitment and retention needs!
SAFER grants provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations in order to help them increase the number of trained, front-line firefighters in their communities. The grants are intended to enhance local departments’ abilities to comply with staffing, response, and operational standards established by the NFPA and OSHA.
FEMA provides several documents to help you plan for your application, including the SAFER Get Ready Guides, SAFER Self Evaluation Sheet, and the 2012 Program Guidance. The National Volunteer Fire Council also offers grant-writing resources, including project ideas for your SAFER grant application. Remember to read the 2012 Program Guidance thoroughly to ensure your project meets the current funding requirements and to find more ideas of eligible projects.
