Register with SAM Now to Apply for AFG, SAFER, and FP&S
October 20, 2014
Fire departments, non-affiliated EMS agencies, and other entities eligible to apply for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program, and the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grant program must be registered and active in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov) before submitting an application. With the AFG application period expected to open next month, now is a great time to register with SAM.gov.
There is no fee to register with SAM.gov and prospective applicants can register or check their registration status at any time.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has created a SAM.gov Worksheet to help agencies prepare all of the information you will need to register on SAM.gov. Agencies that are already registered can fill out the worksheet and then double-check that their registration information is current.
Once the application period for a grant opens, agencies typically have approximately 30 days to complete and submit an application. Make sure that your SAM.gov registration is in order prior to the opening of the application period so that you don’t have to worry about it later on.
