Register for the 2015 National Junior Firefighter Academy at Scott Safety
September 29, 2015
Does your department have a junior firefighter program? The National Volunteer Fire Council has partnered with Tyco and Scott Safety to provide a free training opportunity to junior firefighters and program advisors. Registration is now open for the 2015 National Junior Firefighter Academy.
The NVFC’s National Junior Firefighter Program, fire protection and security company Tyco, and Tyco’s Scott Safety unit, which provides respiratory and other personal protective equipment and safety devices for fire and rescue services, have teamed up for the fifth year to bring the National Junior Firefighter Academy to North Carolina. The 2015 Academy will take place on Saturday, November 14, at the Scott Safety headquarters in Monroe, NC. Registration is free and open to junior firefighters and program advisors nationwide. Click here to register.
The morning will start with a kick-off meeting followed by a tour of the Scott Safety production facility. The group will then head outside for hands-on training drills. Lunch will be provided by the NVFC. The day’s training evolution will hone junior firefighters’ skills in search and rescue, using a thermal imaging camera, EMS techniques, and more. Stay tuned to the National Junior Firefighter Program web site for the full agenda.
“Our junior firefighter program has attended the Academy for three years in a row and it is some of the best training our juniors receive,” said Brian Piercy, Lieutenant Training Officer, Pleasant Gardens (NC) Volunteer Fire Department. “The NVFC, Tyco, and Scott Safety have provided a great program for the kids. Take your junior firefighters – you will not be disappointed!”
Please note that all attendees need to register, including junior firefighter program advisors and parents. Junior firefighters are encouraged to bring turnout gear with them; limited sets will be available for loan. Scott Safety self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units will be provided for all drills. Please indicate on the registration form if you will need to borrow gear. Adults do not need gear to attend.
The Academy is limited to 65 junior firefighters, so register today to secure your place. For more information about the National Junior Firefighter Program, visit www.nvfc.org/juniors.
