May 5, 2014
May is Building Safety Month, and the International Code Council has teamed up with the National Storm Shelter Association to host a free webinar on Storm Shelters. The webinar will take place Thursday, May 15 at 2pm EDT. Space is limited, so register early.
The theme of Week Two of Building Safety Month is “Code Officials: Helping Homeowners Weather the Storm.” The webinar supports this theme and touches on the basics of storm shelter design and construction, including wind characteristics of tornadoes and hurricanes. It will help attendees understand the types of shelters available (manufactured and site-built), basic elements of design, and quality control measures. The standards and guidelines that need to be followed when designing safe storm shelters will also be addressed.
Dr. Ernest Kiesling, executive director of the National Storm Shelter Association, will discuss the ICC 500 Standard on Storm Shelters and host a live Q-and-A session after the presentation.
The webinar is free and offers 0.2 CEUs. Learn more and register now.
