Outbreak of Cryptosporidiosis Associated with a Firefighting Response

The March 9 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention highlighted a June 2011 incident where firefighters from Indiana and Michigan reported gastrointestinal illness caused by cryptosporidiosis after responding to a barn fire in Michigan near the Indiana boarder. This is the first report of cryptosporidiosis being a potential occupational hazard for rural firefighters. Read the investigation results and recommendations.
