NVFC Submits Comments to U.S. Department of Labor About Under Reporting of EMS Workplace Data

On July 21, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), along with 13 other major national emergency medical services (EMS) organizations, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics proposing changes to how the occupations of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics are defined for the purposes of data collection.

The letter was developed through the Joint National EMS Leadership Forum (JNEMSLF), which identified concerns about how EMS-related workplace data is currently collected, leading to under reporting. JNEMSLF, which the NVFC is a member of, works collaboratively on issues of national importance that impact the provision of EMS at the community level and as part of U.S. disaster preparedness and response activities.
