NVFC Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Public Safety Grant to Support Training Efforts

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has received $90,000 as part of the Motorola Solutions Foundation’s public safety grant awards. The grant will make it possible for the NVFC to provide online and in-person training to firefighters and emergency personnel on critical topics including health and safety, leadership, and recruitment and retention. This is the fifth year the NVFC has received a public safety grant to support its education initiatives.

“We are very grateful to the Motorola Solutions Foundation for this grant and their continued support of the NVFC’s initiatives,” said NVFC Chairman Kevin D. Quinn. “Thanks to this grant, we will be able to provide even more first responders the opportunity to take courses that will improve the safety, efficiency, and capacity of their department.”

The grant will enable the NVFC to develop new courses for its online Virtual Classroom, which provides training to first responders in an easy-to-use, on-demand format to best fit their schedules. In-person training events will also be held throughout the year. The grant will enable these and many of the NVFC’s other courses to be offered to firefighters and EMTs free of charge. In addition, the NVFC will conduct an outreach campaign to alert first responders of the availability of the courses.

“At a time when public safety is at the forefront of so many people’s minds in cities around the globe, we are proud to support programs that aim to improve safety and security in those communities,” said Matt Blakely, Executive Director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We are also proud to support organizations that honor the families of fallen first responders and improve safety education in the United States and Canada.”

The foundation gave a total of $3.95 million to 90 organizations in 2015, which will benefit 675,000 first responders and community members.
