NVFC Now Offers Cancer and Critical Illness Coverage Options for Members

wellnessThe National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has expanded its member benefits to include optional cancer and critical illness coverage. NVFC members can take advantage of special rates and plans to protect themselves and their family in the event of a serious illness or accident.

Cancer, accidents, and critical illnesses are a very real threat to members of the fire service. While health and safety precautions can help limit some of the risks, having an insurance plan in place provides protection and peace of mind to fire service families. The NVFC partnered with several insurance carriers to provide options to Individual and Department Members regarding cancer, accident, and critical illness coverage.

“The NVFC and its Cancer Subcommittee are committed to providing resources to assist volunteer firefighters in battling life threatening illnesses such as cancer,” said NVFC New York Director and Cancer Subcommittee co-Chair Chief Brian McQueen. “Through the efforts of this committee, and the entire NVFC Board, we are now able to provide our membership with an option to purchase a critical illness policy of their choice. With some states not having a presumptive cancer bill, this policy will assist firefighters in their time of need.”

Coverage carriers include AFLAC, ESIP, Provident, and VFIS. Many of the plans have the option to add a spouse and family members. Find more information in the Members-Only section of the NVFC web site, and contact the carrier directly for additional cost and coverage details.

“The NVFC is pleased to offer a one-stop resource for our members when they are looking for cancer and critical illness coverage for themselves, their department, and their families,” said Heather Schafer, NVFC CEO.

The NVFC strives to offer a wide range of benefits to members of the fire and emergency services, including accidental death and dismemberment insurance, discounts on fire/EMS products and services, opportunities to apply for scholarships and giveaways, training discounts, and more. The new cancer, accident, and critical illness coverage options further expands the resources the NVFC can offer to volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue personnel.
