New Safety and Health Week Resources Now Available
March 31, 2014
International Fire/EMS Safety and Health Week is June 15-21. Start planning your department’s participation with new resources now available, including activity ideas, a poster, and promotional materials.
The theme of this year’s Safety and Health Week is “Train Like You Fight.” This theme emphasizes safety on the training ground as well as receiving adequate training to prepare for fireground operations. Sponsored by the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and International Association of Fire Chiefs, and supported by two dozen national emergency service organizations, fire and EMS departments are encouraged to suspend all non-emergency activities during Safety and Health Week to focus on safety and health training and education.
The Safety and Health Week web site at www.safetyandhealthweek.org contains a compendium of resources relating to training, safety, physical health, and behavioral health. The Planning page of the site includes materials designed to help departments implement Safety and Health Week events. New resources just added include the 2014 Safety and Health Week poster, ads to place in department newsletters and web sites to promote the event, a customizable press release template, and activity ideas your department can participate in during Safety and Health Week.
In conjunction with Safety and Health Week, the NVFC has teamed up with Action Training Systems to offer the ATS/NVFC $250K Training Giveaway. Action Training Systems will be giving 50 volunteer departments a training package that allows 20 members of each department to access online Essentials of Fire Fighting training. The deadline to apply is May 1, and winners will be announced during Safety and Health Week. Learn more and apply at www.nvfc.org/ats-giveaway.
