September 10, 2012
The NVFC National Junior Firefighter Program is bringing its National Junior Firefighter Academy hands-on training event to Pennsylvania this fall. Thanks to support from California Casualty, junior firefighters and program advisors can take advantage of a free day of training on November 3 at the Harrisburg Area Community College Shumaker Public Safety Center. Register now to attend.
The National Junior Firefighter Academy will start at 8:00am with a leadership panel and activity ideas presentation for junior firefighters and a workshop on serving as a youth mentor and finding program funding for junior firefighter program advisors. All attendees will then enjoy lunch provided by the NVFC and take a tour of the fire training facility. In the afternoon, the group will don gear and participate in a four-part training evolution, including a search and rescue simulation and dummy pull, before wrapping up the day around 5pm.
Registration is free, but space is limited. Register now on the National Junior Firefighter Program web site. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and a t-shirt. Learn more about the National Junior Firefighter Program at www.nvfc.org/juniors.
About the NVFC National Junior Firefighter Program
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is the leading nonprofit membership association representing the interests of the volunteer fire, emergency medical, and rescue services. The NVFC National Junior Firefighter Program provides departments and youth with the resources, tools, and information they need to help develop, grow, enhance, promote, and participate in a local junior firefighter program. The program addresses retention and recruitment challenges by getting youth involved in the fire and emergency services, thus fostering a lifelong connection with the emergency services that will continue throughout their adulthood.
