Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant Application Period Now Open

The application period for the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grant program opened on March 1 and will remain open through the end of April. HMEP grants fund transportation-related hazmat planning and training activities.

States apply for HMEP funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Each state has a designated HMEP agency that is responsible for submitting an application for funding based on grant guidance published by PHMSA. The National Volunteer Fire Council encourages local volunteer agencies to call the  designated agency in your state to learn about the process for submitting information about your hazmat planning and training needs to be included in your state’s HMEP grant application.
