Fire Departments Can Partner with the Census Bureau

The U.S. Census will take place in 2020.  Is your department interested in becoming a partner with the Census Bureau to encourage your local community to participate? Partners come together to spread the message about the importance of participation in their communities. These trusted voices serve as census ambassadors, helping to create awareness about the importance of participating. Partners run the spectrum of government, nonprofit, corporate, and community organizations that spread the message and mobilize their constituents to support the goal of a complete count.

“I encourage all fire departments to get involved in the count of people in your jurisdiction. It is an important event that has far reaching consequences for funding,” said National Volunteer Fire Council Chair Steve Hirsch.

The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

Conducting a census is a massive and important undertaking — one in which the Census Bureau could only accomplish with the help and support of its partners.  View key dates leading up to the census and learn how to become a partner.
