Equipment Management Webinars Now Available
June 11, 2012
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), through a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant, has released two new webinars on equipment management for firefighters and emergency service personnel. “Proper Equipment Management” and “Funding Equipment” are now available on the NVFC web site. Two additional equipment webinars will be released later this summer.
Proper Equipment Management, presented by Mike Harstad, Aerial Product Manager for Rosenbauer America, outlines a plan for fire department equipment management, including audit, inspection, schedule, record keeping, and maintenance and replacement planning. Funding Equipment is led by Paul Darley, CEO/President of W.S. Darley, and covers grant writing, fundraising, and other revenue sources for maintaining and replacing equipment.
The webinars supplement the NVFC’s Volunteer Firefighter Health and Safety Priorities. Set forth in a series of B.E.S.T. Practices for the volunteer fire and emergency services, the priorities are divided into four main focus areas: Behavior, Equipment, Standards and Codes, and Training. The four equipment management workshops focus on different aspects of the fire department equipment lifecycle. Whether you are a veteran department leader or a new recruit, the courses provide the latest information on today’s equipment.
In addition, the NVFC will soon release an equipment tracking template. Built into a user-friendly spreadsheet format, the tracking template can be downloaded and customized for your department. The template will include information on recommended maintenance and replacement dates and a list of additional resources on equipment management.
