Louisiana The State Fire Marshal is able to use funds from the "Two Percent Fire Insurance Fund" to purchase a group insurance policy for volunteer firefighters. This policy would provide medical, death, and burial benefits to firefighters who suffer injury or death while engaged in the scope of their duties.
Maine Communicable diseases that firefighters are frequently exposed to, such as Hepatitis, are considered line-of-duty injuries for the purposes of disability retirement. Maine can require firefighters to be vaccinated against such diseases.

Oregon The Public Employees' Benefit Board may contract for health and dental benefits plans best suited to the needs of the department. This benefit is funded by the Public Employees' Benefits Account, but additional benefits, such as supplemental medical, supplemental dental, optical, accidental death or disability insurance plans can be added at the expense of the volunteer. The Board can also offer long term insurance plans at the volunteer's expense.

Rhode Island Any active firefighter who may come in contact with Hepatitis B in the course of service to the fire department may request to be vaccinated. The Department of Health conducts a series of vaccination clinics throughout the state.

Washington The Board for Volunteer Firefighters and Reserve Officers refunds a portion of the cost of physical examinations for volunteer firefighters. The Board has also compiled a set of agility tests designed to test the fitness of firefighters that may be used by departments.

With membership to the Washington State Firefighters' Association, volunteers are offered through a WSFFA sponsored insurance carrier, additional person/individual insurance plan discounts ranging from medical to life insurance coverage.
