NVFC Fire Prevention Award

The nomination period for the 2010 NVFC Fire Prevention Award is now closed.
 
The National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) Fire Prevention Award, sponsored by First Alert, annually honors a volunteer firefighter who exemplifies the philosophy of fire prevention. To be considered for the award, nominees must be volunteer firefighters. Each nominee will be judged on the following criteria:
 
  • Nominee has made a major contribution or has played a key role in a significant accomplishment in the field of fire prevention.
  • Nominee has demonstrated innovation in establishing and enacting goals and/or obtaining funding for the protection of the public through continuous dedication to fire prevention, fire protection, or life safety programs in their communities.
  • Nominee has demonstrated success in the area of fire prevention. This may include:
    • Number of people reached.
    • Demonstrated reduction in loss of life and/or property.
    • Impact on legislation resulting in increased fire safety and prevention.
 
The selection of the NVFC Fire Prevention Award recipient will be determined through a nationwide nomination process. The recipient of the 2010 Fire Prevention Award will be recognized at a special Awards Banquet in conjunction with the NVFC Spring Board Meeting and will receive:
 
  • Trip to historic Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington, DC, to attend Awards Banquet
  • Complimentary registration for the NVFC Spring Board Meeting
  • Recognition as guest of honor at the NVFC Spring Board Meeting Awards Banquet
  • Complimentary 1-year NVFC Personal Membership
  • Personalized award
  • Place in NVFC history
Nomination packets must include:
 
  • Nomination form.
  • 500-word essay describing the nominee’s contribution to fire prevention.
  • Detailed resume or background sheet of no more than two (2) pages containing an overview of the individual's experience, education, or other pertinent information. 
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation supporting the nominee.
  • No more than three (3) additional supporting documents, such as articles or additional recommendation letters (optional). Please note that only the first three additional supporting documents submitted will be reviewed.
 
Please note – if chosen, award recipient must submit a digital photo to be used for NVFC newsletters, web sites, etc.
 
The NVFC Fire Prevention Award was established in the memory of volunteer firefighter Marc Mueller, who energetically promoted the causes of volunteer firefighters and supported all efforts to elevate the volunteer program to its highest level. He dedicated much of his life to public service and made major strides to bring prestige, credibility, and recognition to volunteer firefighters nationwide. The NVFC and First Alert present the award as a tribute to outstanding volunteerism and community service performed through the fire service.
