New Guide Addresses Public Health Emergency Response
The United States Department of Health and Human Services has released Public Health Emergency Response: A Guide for Leaders and Responders. The guide is the third in a series that specifically addresses the unique needs of first responders and public officials.
The guide covers a variety of topics including: Resources and tools within the public health system that you can use to help address emergencies in your area; how federal health agencies function in an emergency; food security and environmental safety; risk communication; legal issues; tips and guidance for conducting successful preparedness exercises; taking care of oneself during a crisis; and recovery and resiliency after a crisis. Updated copies of this guide can be downloaded free of charge at http://www.hhs.gov/emergency.
