Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Application Period Now Open
The application period for the FY 2008 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grants opened on February 2. Applications for these grants must be received by March 6 at 5 pm EST.
Administered by the Grant Programs Directorate in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, FP&S grants are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. In addition to funding fire prevention activities, the grant can also support firefighter safety research and development.
The main goal of FP&S grants is to reduce incidences of injuries and deaths among high-risk groups, including firefighters, children, and adults over 65. Examples of the types of projects supported by FP&S grants include fire prevention and public safety education campaigns, juvenile firesetter interventions, media campaigns, and arson prevention and awareness programs. Departments have also successfully applied for FP&S grants to help support a Fire Corps program and to implement health and safety initiatives within the department.
Visit to the FP&S web site at www.firegrantsupport.com/fps for information, including grant guidance and application materials.
