NVFC Partners With Ashburn Hill Corp. to Support Fire Service
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has partnered with Ashburn Hill Corp. (AHC), maker of the patented TECGEN® fiber for personal protective apparel, to support the fire service in a variety of ways. The partnership focuses on the mutual goal of keeping first responders safe and includes furthering firefighter health and safety through National Firefighter Health Week, distributing valuable resources at industry trade shows, sponsoring the NVFC spring meeting, and much more.
“We are very pleased to partner with AHC to further the safety and well-being of first responders across the nation,” said NVFC Executive Director Heather Schafer. “Like the NVFC, AHC, with its innovative TECGEN® products, is committed to keeping firefighters safe and preventing the tragedies of death and injury. By joining our efforts together, we can reach even more first responders with important safety messages.”
As part of the partnership, AHC will sponsor two major components of National Firefighter Health Week 2010. Each August, the NVFC, through its groundbreaking Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program, holds National Firefighter Health Week to encourage first responders to focus on their health and wellness and make the lifestyle changes necessary to stay strong. Each day of health week highlights a different topic of particular importance to first responders. The 2010 event will be held August 16-20.
AHC is sponsoring an issue of The Pulse, the printed newsletter of the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program, dedicated to National Firefighter Health Week. This special edition of The Pulse will be distributed to every fire department in the country and serve as an educational and inspirational tool to help first responders participate in National Firefighter Health Week.
In addition, AHC will sponsor the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) day of National Firefighter Health Week. This focus day, which will be Wednesday, August 17, is designed to educate first responders on health and safety issues related to PPE and motivate them to always follow proper PPE protocol. The proper use of PPE is one of the NVFC’s health and safety priorities, and AHC created TECGEN® as an innovative protective apparel solution to keep firefighters safe and comfortable during response.
Another component of the partnership will be to ensure visitors to the NVFC and Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program exhibit booths at industry trade shows across the nation can take home valuable resources. AHC is providing co-branded bags at the ten fire service trade shows the NVFC is attending this year. This will enable the NVFC to distribute resources and tools such as the NVFC’s Volunteer Firefighter Health and Safety Priorities and the Health and Wellness Guide for the Volunteer Emergency Services to all conference attendees who stop by the booth.
