NVFC Joins Pennsylvania Town In Mourning the Loss of Teen Firefighters
Three Southwestern Pennsylvania teens, at least two of whom were members of the Zelienople (PA) Volunteer Fire Department, lost their lives Tuesday night in an automobile accident. The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) expresses deep sympathy for the family and friends of these young men.
"We offer our condolences to the families of these youth, the department, and to their whole community," said Heather Schafer, NVFC Executive Director. "This is a terrible tragedy and we all mourn this great loss."
The teens were identified as Sam Bucci, 18, of Zelienople, Trevor Barkley, 17, of Lancaster (PA) Township, and Elijah Lundsford, 18, formerly of Zelienople. They were reported missing on Tuesday when they did not show up for a drill session at the fire department. The Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department is a registered member of the NVFC’s National Junior Firefighter Program.
