SAFER Grant Applications Due January 15

The Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants until 5 p.m. EST on January 15. Take this opportunity to apply for a grant to support your department’s retention and recruitment efforts.

SAFER grants have been used in a variety of innovative ways to help volunteer departments with their retention and recruitment programs. Click here for ideas of retention and recruitment projects SAFER has funded. Grants can also be used for the hiring of career firefighters.

It is important to read the SAFER Program Guidance thoroughly before applying as many changes have been made since the last application cycle. Find the Program Guidance, applicant tutorial, grant application, and more on the Assistance to Firefighters Grant web site at www.firegrantsupport.com/safer.

The NVFC has also released resources to help you apply for a SAFER grant. Visit www.nvfc.org/afg to access these resources.

In the current economic climate, getting funding for your department’s retention and recruitment efforts is especially important. Take advantage of the extended deadline by applying for a SAFER grant before January 15.
