Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Application Period Is Now Open

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has opened the FY 2009 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant application period. FP&S grants support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and fire-related hazards.

The FP&S grants are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which is administered by the DHS Federal Emergency Management Agency's Grant Programs Directorate in coordination with the U.S. Fire Administration. Examples of the types of activities supported by the FP&S grants include smoke alarm installation, fire prevention and public safety education campaigns, juvenile fire setter interventions, media campaigns, arson prevention and awareness programs, and department health and safety initiatives.

The application and Program Guidance are available on the Assistance to Firefighters Program web site at www.firegrantsupport.com/fps. An applicant tutorial is also available to help with the preparation and submittal of competitive applications as well as provide an overview of the fire prevention funding priorities and evaluation criteria. Applicants who have questions regarding the FP&S grants and application process should contact the Help Desk at 1-866-274-0960 or at firegrants@dhs.gov. The application period is scheduled to be open from September 21 through October 23.
